Janet & Allen
Allen Hazard has studied the Arts and Crafts Movement and is an enthusiast of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture. Besides having a keen mind for interpreting historical events, Allen is able to distill the important and intriguing elements of a point in time as they relate to events or to the artifacts of those time. It is this combination of seeking out the facts and a true love of art and history that make Allen's contributions to our business invigorating and refreshing. Allen also has an eye for quality items! He is also an Professor of Health and Exercise Science at Southwestern College, Grossmont College and National University (San Diego).

Allen has served as the event coordinator for several area historic home tours and has managed coordination of publicity, written materials, managed volunteers and has held a wide variety of positions to support successful local fund-raisers for the preservation community. Allen was the man with the vision that resulted in two local historic districts in Mission Hills. Allen has an M.A. in exercise science and BA in Physical Education and History, all from San Diego State University.

Janet O'Dea is a former product development manager for a trademark licensing firm that worked with Fortune 100 companies and for Anthony Robbins. She has worked with creative types for most of her career. She is a brand equity expert and has created award winning products. Janet has a B.A. in Liberal Arts (culture studies). Janet was the project manager for residents in her community and lead the way towards the first Mission Hills Historic District. Janet is running www.HazArts.com full time while Allen works with her part time as he continues to slay the dragons of ignorance as a college instructor.

Besides our love for the early 20th Century, we are active in our San Diego historical communities. We have been volunteers and in leadership positions with Save Our Heritage Organisation (SOHO), our local county preservation group, and were instrumental in founding and organizing Mission Hills Heritage - a neighborhood preservation group. Janet also serves on the Uptown Planners board.

We both received a People in Preservation Award from Save Our Heritage Organisation recognizing the work for the Mission Hills Historic District. We began to prepare historic designation research reports for our friends and neighbors and have helped local residents gain historical designation to help preserve their homes. In May 2007, Allen and Janet received their second SOHO People in Preservation (PIP) award within the past two years for contributions with Mission Hills Heritage, a community nonprofit preservation organization.

We may be able to help you with your San Diego historic designation research as well. Please contact us if you would like Happy Hazard, LLC, to perform the historical research on your older home (City of San Diego only).

Lastly, we have a lot to say, because we are so involved in our business and with an active preservation community. We will post articles on this page as we submit them for publication.

Now, that you know a little about us, we'd like to know more about you. We do a lot of business on the web but nothing can replace a face to face meeting. We hope to meet you sometime and if you see us out and about please stop us to say hello.

Thanks you for visiting our site.
